Alex Facciponte's Blog Post Week 3 EDU 5243

Alex Facciponte's Blog Post Week 3 EDU 5243 Based on the research, there are many considerations to take into account when trying to build an asynchronous professional learning course for my peers. One of the biggest takeaways from the research is understanding that improving instruction is ultimately rooted through teacher learning (Gordon, 2022). This can be done through evaluation of direct experiences, reflections and analysis (Gordon, 2022). As with anything, it is important to recognize what is working and what is not. I believe my peers will need to be informed on the Triple-E Framework as my district currently uses SAMR. It would be good to provide them with an introduction to get them started to understand the framework in itself. In this initiative, I would be the lead learner. There are cognitive coaching approaches to help teacher technology use. One of the approaches that can be used is clinical supervision (Gordon, 2022). This process is more data based and involves h...

Alex Facciponte's Blog Post Week 2 EDU 5243 1. Work within the feedback groups provided for the course, to partner with a peer. Working with that peer identify an area of weakness with regard to technology use aligned with the research-based technology integration framework you have identified (week1) AND the ISTE Standards for Educators and Students. (A) In collaboration with your peer, develop the peer’s SMART Goal to address the area of need. Suggestion: Focus on a goal that could be addressed in no more than 1 or 2 semesters. (B) Outline 3-5 action steps to support your peer in the attainment of the SMART goal. A) Christina’s SMART Goal: By the start of semester 1, 100% of Westwood Regional High School (WRSD) faculty will attend at least two professional development workshops focused on the pedagogical integration of Google Apps for Education. The goal is to track attendance for 100% faculty participation across a minimum of two workshops, which provides a clear and quantifiabl...

Alex Facciponte's Blog Post Week 1 EDU 5243 A technology integration framework that could be used by my district is the Triple E Framework. The Triple E Framework provides various benefits regarding technology use in a school. It allows technology to be looked at under a holistic view by understanding the different impacts technology can have (Kolb, 2020). First, the framework mentions the idea of engagement (Kolb, 2020). Engagement is necessary to make sure that students are actually interested in starting the learning process (Kolb, 2020). Another aspect of the framework is enhancement (Kolb, 2020). Enhancement involves going beyond just a basic understanding of the material (Kolb, 2020). Instead, the goal is to make sure that the technology is actually useful in creating deeper understandings (Kolb, 2020). In this section of the framework, it is also important to make sure that the technology being utilized is not something that could be done with traditional pen and paper (Kol...

Alex Facciponte's EDU 5313 Week 5 Blog Post

Alex Facciponte's EDU 5313 Week 5 Blog Post Part I The article I chose to read was Universal Design for Learning: Scanning for Alignment in K-12 Blended and Fully Online Learning Materials. There was a lot that I learned from it. Something I found shocking right away is that a significant majority of online learning is done through prepackaged content (Basham et al., 2016). As a new teacher in the field, I find this concerning. As teachers, it is our responsibility to adapt content to our students to give them the best learning experiences. Utilizing just prepackaged content will hurt our students because not all of them learn the same way. It does not allow students to receive the adequate attention they deserve (Basham et al., 2016). Another general concern that the article mentions is the lack of physical accessibility there is (Basham et al., 2016). This is damaging to students who have disabilities or impairments where they then can not access the material in itself. A poten...

Alex Facciponte's EDU 5313 Week 4 Blog Post

Alex Facciponte's EDU 5313 Week 4 Blog Post Part I Overall, the lesson plan is ok, but it feels like it leaves a lot to be desired. It is well aligned with the standards I have provided. For content standards, it’s almost in a sense a little too perfect. For creating a lesson on the causes of the Civil War, I utilized these content standards from New York State: Key Idea(s): 7.8 A NATION DIVIDED: Westward expansion, the industrialization of the North, and the increase of slavery in the South contributed to the growth of sectionalism. Constitutional conflicts between advocates of states’ rights and supporters of federal power increased tensions in the nation; attempts to compromise ultimately failed to keep the nation together, leading to the Civil War. (Standards: 1, 3, 4; Themes: TCC, GEO, GOV, ECO) Conceptual Understandings: 7.8b As the nation expanded geographically, the question of slavery in new territories and states led to increased sectional tensions. Attempts at compromis...

Alex Facciponte's EDU 5313 Week 3 Blog Post  Intro to Infographic There are many things to take into account when understanding how students learn. Some of the main points made within chapter 4 of how people learn include ideas of executive function, self-regulation, and the working memory (National Academies of Sciences, 2018). As educators, we need to do our best to make sure that students are engaged. We need to make sure student executive function is effective by having them focused or switching ideas when dealing with a task (National Academies of Sciences, 2018). Self-regulation is also crucial. If students are unable to control their behaviors, they will have a difficult time learning new material (National Academies of Sciences, 2018). Finally, working memory deals with the idea of being engaged by making sure information is being manipulated (National Academies of Sciences, 2018). 3 Major Points As previously mentioned, three elements that impact curriculum design ar...

Alex Facciponte's EDU 5313 Week 2 Blog Post

Alex Facciponte's EDU 5313 Week 2 Blog Post  Part I Intellectual Work/ Authentic instruction & assignment The nature of authentic intellectual work is that the work or skills within the assignment goes beyond the basics (Newmann et al., 2007). Students completing a worksheet dealing with basic comprehension of the material will not go as far as having them complete authentic intellectual work. Instead, students should be tasked with meaningful learning experiences through intellectual work (Newmann et al., 2007). This work should allow students to go beyond a traditional understanding by interpreting, applying other concepts, and synthesizing the information they are expected to learn (Newmann et al., 2007). This will allow students to be more motivated and excited to learn (Newmann et al., 2007). It will also help students in the long run to provide critical skills within the workplace (Newmann et al., 2007). Teaching students how to critically think by applying information t...
