Some of the main points made within chapter 4 of how people learn include ideas of executive function, self-regulation, and the working memory (National Academies of Sciences, 2018). Alex Facciponte's EDU 5313 Week 2 Blog Post  Part I Intellectual Work/ Authentic instruction & assignment The nature of authentic intellectual work is that the work or skills within the assignment goes beyond the basics (Newmann et al., 2007). Students completing a worksheet dealing with basic comprehension of the material will not go as far as having them complete authentic intellectual work. Instead, students should be tasked with meaningful learning experiences through intellectual work (Newmann et al., 2007). This work should allow students to go beyond a traditional understanding by interpreting, applying other concepts, and synthesizing the information they are expected to learn (Newmann et al., 2007). This will allow students to be more motivated and excited to learn (Newmann et al., 2007). EDU 5313 Week 1 Blog Post  Introduction Hello everyone! My name is Alex Facciponte. I have lived in Long Island, NY my entire life. Since October, I have been working as a leave replacement for a Special Education English teacher. However, I am currently only certified to teach Social Studies. Although there have been challenges of not knowing the content area and working with special education students, I am overcoming these challenges by doing the best I can and seeking advice from colleagues. Last May I had graduated with my undergraduate degree and thought I would get experience this year substituting as I work on my masters. I have definitely gotten more experience than I could ask for in this role. In the classroom, this has made me more confident than ever. About 92.3% of my students within the district have broadband internet access at home (NCES. 2022). While that is a high concentration of students that do have access, it still means a few hundred students are left out of internet access. Providing broadband internet to everyone can create a higher quality education (Department of Commerce, n.d.). It can allow for our students to be more competitive in terms of global impacts as well (Department of Commerce, n.d.). Alex Facciponte's Week 4 Blog Post EDU 5373      Professional development is proven to be a viable option in not only helping teachers but students too (Crompton, 2023). Students who have had teachers endure professional development have performed better in school than students who did not (Crompton, 2023). There are many things I would like to consider when looking at structuring my own plan. I want to make sure that my professional development is in a constructivist style of learning technology (Kopcha et. al, 2020). While receiving the direct information is important, it is more crucial to have learning experiences with the technology instead (Kopcha et. al, 2020). One practice that is effective is leveraging the technology into valuable experiences for students (Crompton, 2023). Sometimes teachers believe they are utilizing technology effectively by just putting their worksheet online, however, this defeats the purpose of incorporating technology to begin with (Crompton, 2023). Instead, students should be utilizing the technology to gain new experiences they would have never had in the first place such as going on virtual tours (Crompton, 2023). When I was teaching my students about the Diary of Anne Frank, I had my students go on a virtual tour of the secret annex the Frank family went into hiding with. Alex Facciponte's Week 2 Blog Post EDU 5373      I plan to reach out to many stakeholders for a technology integration plan. I would like to include as many potential stakeholders as possible, such as the school board, teachers, the technology department, other administrators, and parents. It is crucial that everyone's voice is heard and accounted for. I would not want a potential stakeholder to feel as though this plan was not made without their interests in mind. Based on current projects and goals, I believe my plan would extend the one-to-one device initiative. It is fantastic that students in my district have devices, as not everyone does; however, the devices they are given are outdated, and students do not reach the full potential of technological benefits. Ultimately, I hope to incorporate a more sophisticated one-to-one initiative that accounts for the recycling and updating of devices over time.
